Heron Rain Tarp

Ah, the sweet pitter-patter of rain on a 8.6 oz Silpoly rain tarp. This ultralight hexagonal rain tarp is the perfect companion for your next hammock camping adventure. While most ultralight tarps are made from 1.1 oz Silnylon that stretches when wet, ours is made from a newly developed 0.9 oz Silpoly to be able to deliver a crazy light, full coverage tarp that will not mist through or stretch. Sleep comfortably knowing you are high and dry while the sound of the rain puts you to sleep. Includes a tube of Sil-Net for sealing seams.

SPECIFICATIONS

Most hammock tarps are created using silnylon, a material known for its moisture permeability and tendency to stretch after becoming wet. These characteristics are primarily due to the hygroscopic (moisture-absorbing) nature of the nylon fabric.

SilPoly is able to avoid both of these pitfalls due to the hydrophobic (moisture repellent) characteristic of the polyester fabric, which is created by soaking the finest polyester fabric in a thin silicone coating, resulting in a fabric that is both highly waterproof and hydrophobic. This fabric will not mist or stretch when wet and can be simply shaken off to remove water before packing.

Setup time for a hammock tarp is often one of the longest parts of the process. We wanted to alleviate some of the difficulty of tying knots, tensioning, and disassembly by developing this handy piece of hardware.

With this little piece of glow-in-the-dark plastic, setting up your tarp is as simple as passing the cord through the triangular opening, pulling the tarp tight, and wrapping the cord through the three small slots to create a friction lock.

No more complicated knots to tie in the middle of a storm, no more issues getting the tension just right, no more stuck knots in the morning. Simple, fast, repeatable.

When your tarp is taking a thrashing in a heavy storm, diligently keeping you and your gear dry, it's these tie-outs that take all the punishment. We decided to help them out by adding a second layer of fabric and bar tacking through the hemmed seam.

With this extra strain relief and durable webbing loops, the storm is the one who should be worried.
